The UK’s Bingo Association is preparing to launch a campaign caled “Stop Destroying My Bingo”, which calls for bingo players to sign a petition addressed to the government. The move is hoping to rouse the 3 million regular bingo players in England and Wales to support the industry, which is perceived to be under threat.

The petition urges government to address the current heavy taxation on bingo players, and the upcoming smoking ban that threatens the future of the UK Bingo industry.

If the smoking ban goes ahead later this year, the impact on the multi-million pound industry could be potentially devastating.

A spokesperson for the Bingo Association said: “As many as 200 clubs are under threat of closure and unless the Government takes steps to address the policies unfairly affecting bingo, businesses will close, jobs will be lost and communities will lose a key social facility.”

Meanwhile the online bingo industry is looking forward to an increase in new members and a related surge in revenue as bingo enthusiasts are anticipated to start playing online, in the comfort of their own homes, where they can smoke in peace.
